Recently, I wrote to you about triplet girls brought to the Messengers of Justice (MOJ) by their desperate parents who could not sustain their lives. I can only imagine how heartbreaking it was for them to give up their daughters because they themselves could not provide for them. However, these parents should be “proud of their humility” because their girls now have a fighting chance!

Sr. Rachel Ulor, MOJ and nurse attend to the girls en route to the hospital.

As of now the girls are under 24 hour observation at the Umezurike Hospital in Owerri, the largest city closest to our mission in Mbaise village. The MOJ sisters are present at the hospital to ensure the girls are receiving proper attention and conveying information to HEAL Founder Leo Okonwko on their condition.

The doctors are telling us that malnutrition has stunted the growth of their limbs and possibly their internal organs. The girls are now being fed properly. We must pray that there are no other complications aside from those caused by the malnutrition. We hope that proper nourishment reverses any damage already done and results in normal health and development for the girls.

HEAL is showing you our commitment to self-emptying in action!  St. Paul writes how Jesus “…emptied himself, taking the form of a servant…” (Phil 2:7). Jesus said “…the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve… (Mt. 20:28). And, so the MOJ’s are now the slaves of these triplet girls in dire need, embodying Our Lord’s command and example in real time!

Like our recently departed Sr. Calista Utazi, MOJ, these girls represent many more who have no access to life-saving medical attention. HEAL works to bring life to the lifeless and hope to the hopeless!  For $125 per month, HEAL can sustain AND develop the life of one child. If 5 people make a monthly commitment of $25, one child’s future is positively changed forever.
