In the Garden of Eden, where God provided all the food and necessities of life in abundance for Adam and Eve, the prospect of losing it all loomed because of an ill-intended unwelcome guest, the devil. In the village of Umuagwu, the Mother Enabler Nursery and Primary School (MENPS) provided Junior Secondary Student (JSS), Love Ohaka, the food, shelter, and religious and formal education she needed to become a Servant Leader (Mt. 20:28) for her country of Nigeria.
Unfortunately, in early 2017, another ill-intended, unwelcome guest arrived in Umuagwu to claim the mission land for himself through deceitful and even malicious means. Thankfully, Rev. Leo Okonkwo has repelled this interloper through legal recourse and with heroic lawyers at his side who believe in justice and in HEAL’s mission. But, repelling this evil took great sacrifice on the part of Rev. Leo and even of some of the children, including Love Ohaka!
One day last February, the interloper manipulated some poor restive youth to harass and frighten the Messengers of Justice Sisters and the students. One boy, Solomon, was assaulted and, “Love was pushed into the gutter by the hoodlums when they attacked”, said Rev. Leo. This experience led Rev. Leo to transfer Love and some others from MENPS in Umuagwu to BOMCA School in Akpim village. Some have returned to Umuagwu since things have subsided from last year.
Love has come through a crucible of tribulation and refocused her life at BOMCA in Akpim as she feels safer in a new environment. She now prepares for JSS-2 (8th grade) exams, which she must pass to advance to JSS-3 (9th grade). “She is in daily preparation for lessons during and after school for this purpose”, Rev. Leo says. So, as Love and other students continue to press on in the midst of life’s challenges, please keep them in your prayers!
