Being president of a new organization means seizing any opportunity that presents itself.  A dear friend of mine, Juliana, an activist on behalf of persecuted Assyrian Christians, invited me to a media event in New York last Thursday.  So, I booked a flight for Thursday morning and a hotel for Thursday night!

With one of HEAL’s first supporters, Cecilia Iwu, in NYC on June 10.

Juliana and I support each other’s causes with our various resources.  At this event in New York, I was able to meet a few media contacts interested in learning more about HEAL’s work, especially as it intersects with terrorist violence in Nigeria and Cameroon.  I will let you know when the interviews happen!

Also, I was very fortunate to finally meet a friend and supporter of HEAL, Cecilia Iwu, in person.  Cecilia teaches in the New York public schools and is from the same village in Nigeria as HEAL Founder and Vice-president, Leo Okonkwo!  Cecilia is working to pull some strings on HEAL’s behalf in Nigeria, so please pray for her success!  She also enlightened me on details of Nigerian history and culture.

I returned to Chicago the following day, Friday, thankful that I made the trip for the purpose of expanding HEAL’s reach and notoriety.  It is important that we obtain as much media exposure as possible in building our name recognition and charitable brand.  Let me know if you’re aware of any media opportunities.

As always, keep us in your prayers and your charitable giving plans as HEAL continues to grow and expand!
