“It’s gonna be a great occasion!  It’s gonna be a great occasion! God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, He’s present!” That’s the catchy song Sr. Ann and Sr. Racheal of the Messengers of Justice (MOJ) sang when they landed in Chicago two days before the 4th Annual HEAL Benefit, which took place October 4th at the Croatian Franciscan House! And, with Srs. Ann and Racheal who spoke at our event, oh what a grand occasion it turned out to be!

The Messengers of Justice sisters inspired people with their words.

As the night proceeded, attendees were informed and entertained by our mission video which revealed the political and cultural factors that contribute to social conditions that hamper education and human development in rural areas. The video ended with testimonies from several of the children of BOMCA who value the education they are receiving from Rev. Leo Okonkwo and the MOJ’s.

The highlight of the evening was the keynote address and “Kenosis Award” presentation of Fr. George Clements, the legendary former pastor of Holy Angels parish in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago.  Fr. Clements has exemplified the self-emptying spirituality (cf. Phil 2:6-11) HEAL is founded upon.  As as result of his ministry, thousands of orphaned African American children have found loving homes.  Rev. Leo and the MOJ’s presented him the award to great applause!

Our event culminated with an appeal on behalf of our hardworking teachers at BOMCA in Mbaise and Mother Enabler K-12 School in Umuagwu.  Salaries need to be paid and our attendees responded generously.  But, we are short of our goal and so ask you to make a sacrificial gift for our educational efforts!
