What’s the best way to fight Ebola?
Over the past few months, the news has been dominated by the new Ebola virus threat that originated in West Africa. One American doctor, Kent Brantly, working for Rev. Franklin Graham’s charity, contracted the virus in Liberia and returned to America for treatment. Thankfully, he survived. But, Ebola has been fatal for others, with over 2,000 lives lost so far, mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.
However, there have been a few Ebola cases reported in Nigeria also and efforts are underway to contain the deadly virus. A few weeks ago, Cameroon closed its border with Nigeria, preventing Nigerians from entering Cameroon. This has hindered some of HEAL’s mission work, since we have operations in both countries requiring travel back and forth. HEAL Vice President, Leo Okonkwo, is urgently collecting medical information for the prevention of Ebola among our children, widows, and missionaries.
Doctors have consulted with Leo and recommended that we invest in special thermometers, which can read body temperature without body contact. Also, they recommend a certain chemical sanitizer for washing before and after meals and upon return from anywhere outside the Compassionate Home. Finally, we are advised to purchase clinical water filters, which will further purify the water we pump from our well on the grounds.
As I’ve told you, Leo is returning to Chicago from October 8th to November 8th. We will be updating all of our contacts here about the conditions in Nigeria and Cameroon with respect to the Ebola threat among other issues we face.
Please save October 29th on your calendar for the 1st Annual HEAL Benefit, which will feature a popular pro-life speaker (soon to be announced) and live music by gifted composer Michael Shimkus!
