This past weekend, on August 23rd, at St. Norbert Parish in Northbrook, he preached on the origin and mission of HEAL for the Archdiocese of Chicago Mission Appeal.
Describing the motivation for his own faith commitment to serve the marginalized and abandoned orphans and widows, Deacon Leo said, “I myself was once helpless and am still the son of a widow. God helped me to achieve education and training through fellow Christians. Look at me, once a dropout from school for reasons of poverty, now, a deacon preaching before you.”
Earlier last week, on Wednesday, August 19th, Leo was invited to a town hall meeting on Religious Persecution, which was hosted by St. James Lutheran Church and organized by U.S. Congressman Bob Dold (R-IL 10th). Leo spoke about terrorism in Nigeria.
Since 2009, the Islamic terror group, BOKO HARAM has murdered over 10,000 innocent Christians by raiding villages and burning down churches. HEAL’s home school for over 80 orphans is located in southern Nigeria, but is home to several child refugees from northern villages, where Boko Haram conducts its vicious terror.
At our upcoming 2nd Annual HEAL Benefit, we will reveal our plan to erect an undisclosed shelter to protect the children in the unlikely, but possible event that BOKO HARAM’s terrorist activity expands further south. In addition to serving this emergency purpose, the shelter will normally serve as a safe lodge for volunteer missionaries, who will visit Nigeria and employ their skills in the service of our widows and orphans.
You’ll learn about our security plans and much more at the 2nd Annual HEAL Benefit on September 2nd. It’s going to be an unforgettable event, so RSVP today!
