In the last newsletter, I explained how our diesel vendor has generously provided us with “extended credit” in supplying fuel for our mission. Because HEAL is responsible for so many needs of the Masters in our care, our current fundraising is not yet enough for us to stay current with our bills.
Thus, much of our mission operates on a trust based credit system between our suppliers and HEAL Founder, Leo Okonkwo. “Our diesel supplier understands we serve the marginalized poor and rely exclusively on donations from our friends in the USA”, Rev. Leo explains. Because of this trust, we obtain diesel for our generator to power the mission without paying for it up front.
Of course, a vendor can only stretch so far before the time comes either to collect or cut the supply. “As the year is drawing to a close, our diesel partner feels obliged to compel us to balance our books before supplying more fuel.” I stated last week we were behind about $40,000, the cost of one year supply of diesel of which we burn about 150 liters per day.
Normally, we would not have allowed so much time to pass without paying something toward our fuel consumption. However, some unexpected burdens on our budget earlier this year have contributed to the delay which has brought us to this impasse.
Thankfully, some among you have responded generously and we have raised about $20k of the $40k needed. HELP US get to the finish line! Please keep in mind this isn’t just about gas and lights, but about forming Servant Leaders in the name of Jesus for the future of Nigeria and beyond!
