Imagine becoming a servant to a wealthy “master” as means of supporting your family. This is what happened to Leo Okonkwo, founder of HEAL. A servant at a young age, there was little chance of Leo continuing his education. He was gifted in math and calculus, but his master refused to send him to a Catholic school.

Relentless, Leo prayed a novena to St. John Bosco and promised he would give his life to God by becoming a slave to the poor, if only he could attend seminary. In his interview with WSFI Catholic Radio, Leo explains how he received this miracle!

Although he did not become a priest after seminary, an opportunity was given to him through prayer to attend to children stricken and dying from diseases contracted from unclean drinking water. Thus he began serving the poor.

When you view the interview on YouTube, you’ll find out how Leo was challenged by a voice heard deep in his own heart.
